Purchased

Another house on Angelus Place - eek! Here we go again!! this one is a complete tear-down - lovely old lady living there now who has lived there for a while. We’re starting to engage architects etc and figure out what we’re going to do. So exciting to do another project.

Ummm…

Ummm…

My lovely girl - approaching 4 months old - it doesn’t seem possible. Since going back to work I’ve ironically felt closer to Lola - absence making the heart grow fonder for sure. I think one reason might be, that being away during the day you notice the changes so much more intently. Now her laughter, her coos, each development is a daily astonishment.

4pm at Will Rogers exploring the old stables. What a wonderful place this is. The light was amazing, the kids enjoyed running around. Fantastic weekend.

Back to Work

The very best and the very worst of times. Someone told me today that a lot of women find leaving the kids especially hard after number two. It is. Terribly hard. I am utterly torn. I know it will get better, but man oh man.

Oliver and the fire engine

Oliver and the fire engine

Big day today. Oliver had his first haircut - I swear he looks like a teenager now. Much as I hate to say goodbye to those lucious curls - it was starting to get mulletesque. Many new words - today’s highlight being “backhoe” Steven nearly lost it and had to call his Dad to share.
Today was open day at the nearest firehouse. As you can imagine, this was a BIG DEAL for Oliver. I think it’ll rank right up there with the invasion of the hummingbird on the list of enduring memories.

Gimme that

Gimme that

Grab that bottle baby. After battling with the bottle for just the one day, Lola has embraced her new found friend and our baby girl is growng like a weed.

I’m back at work now which is both excellent and terrible. It really is a case of extremes. I don’t know how any working mothers reconcile this, I feel torn each and every day - both enjoying myself and feeling a sense of loss at the very same time. I guess we really can’t have it all. At least I caught Lola’s first laugh, I was singing to her and she giggled - already catching on to Mama’s dud notes.

Lola enthralled

Lola enthralled
Originally uploaded by taylorkydd.

What a delight our little girl is. She wakes each morning with a delicious smile on her face, so pleased to be up with the world. She’s taking one bottle once a day, in readiness for my return to work. We had a brief panic last week when she baulked at it for a day - yikes! But as she got hungrier he soon came around. She now weighs 11lbs - which seems incredible - amost double her birth weight in three months. And most exciting she now only wakes briefly in the night, and goes to bed a dream.
Her brother is curiously protective of her, but feigns shyness/indifference most of the time. He had a milestone of his own last week when we weaned him off the bottle. I thought it was going to be a lot harder than it was, but we explained, he listened, and kinda got it. Miracle. New words include “now” “blueberry” “mango” “toot toot”. Trucks still the overriding obsession. Favorite books of the moment “Choo Choo” by Virginia Marsden, The Little Red Engine by Lois Lenski and What can you do with a Shoe - gorgeous illustrations by Sendak.
Our lives are fantastically full. Steven is traveling and his work is crazy, but we’re managing. Somewhat apprensive but largely positive about my own return - it’ll be a big change. Dreading leaving Oliver especially, but he’ll be in school soon which is heartening.
