How high can you go?

So I’ve been test running a bunch of “how tall will your child be” theories recently. This will happen if you have a very tall child and you and your spouse are, let us say, somewhat vertically-challenged.

Babycenter has a nifty online calculator (of course) just right for the job. The Height Predictor asks you for your height, your child’s current height and weight and so on. Verdict: 6′ 4″

Some other less scienfitic methods include - measuring your child at age 3, on the day and doubling it. Verdict 6′ 10″

And lastly, measuring the span of their arms outstretched and doubling that: 6′ 8

So there we have it, if none of these prove correct I will love him just the same. But if they do, all I can say is, God bless you Uncle John!

Sunday night, 9pm and I’m in bed already, tired after a big day - releasing ladybirds in the garden with the kids, neighborhood walks, eating, some reading of the paper. Doesn’t sound like much really, yet I feel totally exhausted.

Yesterday Steven and Morgan took Oliver to the maritime museum and to see the Habitat for Humanity store (read big warehouse with a lot of second hand building supplies) I think Oliver must have thought he’d died and gone to heaven.

Lola and I went to buy some hairclips and shoes - wow its starting early! Totally girls morning - loved it.

Other points of note, Oliver’s stitches came off - he looks normal again. And Lola asserts herself more and more everyday in the face of her bossy brother. No dolls for her still, just her brothers trains, trucks and cars and anything else he happens to take an interest in. But she does love her blanket and to flop on to anything soft. In that she is totally unique. This girl also loves to dance and is teaching
Oliver a thing or two!

Thoughts for the day

Its 10.30pm and I am mortified as my husband us waiting in line to get
our taxes EXTENSION in and it is all my fault.

Oliver told me the other day that I am his best friend, I have no words. He also is informing me specifically where he will tolerate being kissed goodbye/goodnight. I take what I can get.

Lola is teething again. A fifth tooth to join the front four, upper
left. She is as a result, a touch cranky and more determined in her
actions than ever.

And me? Apart from mortified and praying for sleep, frantically busy
with Intent and loving (almost) every minute!

UPDATE: Two days later I fell from best-friend status only to be replaced by Papa. Oh the humanity!

Days of Summer

Today has been a scorcher. It was only last week that temps were down in the 60s (shocking I know!) but today soared to the 90s. It was Carter’s birthday so we trooped off to Will Rogers Park for the festivities. God it was hot. At least 30, three and four year olds tearing around in the heat - you would imagine a potential recipe for disaster. But the whole thing went superbly and everyone had a great time.

Carter I think was a little overwhelmed - but I’ve no doubt he’ll remember that birthday forever.

I’d never seen Oliver doing any kind of group sports before and I have to say he was damn good! And he so enjoyed it. I’ve started nagging Steven about taking him to soccer practice again - nothing too intense, just a chance to run around with other boys - and a fun way for the two of them to spend time together.

That being said I tried to look away as Oliver careened into other boys, I was so worried about his recent cut (from running in to the kitchen island - long story!) but it was all fine of course. Lola had a ball - running around in the sprinkler. Chilled as always.

Thank goodness the climbing in the crib ended as soon as it began - under threat of no more Bob the Builder! Lola is sleeping better too - we’ve started feeding them up right before bed which seems to be doing the trick.

So now it’s 6pm on a Saturday, evening, tired from playing tickle bug and hide and seek and running around in the backyard. Bee movie beckons. I am profoundly happy.
