You know you live in LA when…

Today Steven and I went to visit a preschool very close to our home, Ecole Claire Fontaine on Abbot Kinney. Oliver’s current school - Newpath Montessori is great, no doubt. The feisty Ms Ira is a force to be reckoned with, but she adores those children and Oliver has thrived there. It would be great though, for him to go somewhere closer to home. So with that in mind I thought I’d check out one school we live quite near Ecole Claire Fontaine.

The Ecole is a bilingual school where French is interchanged with English. It’s a wonderful environment - with a focus on the arts, baking, gardening and yes, of course yoga. That’s where it struck me, LA with all its craziness has some pretty amazing schools and opportunities for kids. I can’t believe my boy will probably be better at yoga than me! Although that’s not saying much!

So fingers crossed, we’ll let you know whether Oliver gets in for this year.
Bilingual French, his Meme will be pleased! :)

Experienced my biggest quake ever today. Can’t say I’ve really experienced one before - last time was more of a shunt really, over 4 years ago. This one measures 5.4 apparently. I was on a video conf call, dove under the table, totally ill-prepared. Then of course when the panic passed no-one could reach anyone on the phone. The Web was unaffected tho which was good to know. Learning no 1 - we were totally unprepared. Gotta change that. Get me some water bottles and firelighters…

4 Years

Steven & Sal

Wedding Day

Four years ago today Steven and I got married and I can honestly say it was one of the happiest days of my life. To spend a day, or in our case, a whole weekend surrounded by the people you love in one huge celebration is pretty unbeatable! We always said we would have to do a reunion and this year in a way we will - as my best friend and her new husband are coming up to the farm to join us this summer.

So much has happened in four years! Two children, new jobs, trips to Australia and Cuba! Life is full and tremendously rewarding. Here’s a toast to the next four and beyond! I love you babe!

Every day I make the choice to go into work rather than stay home with my children. And every day is just as hard as the day before. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job, I thrive on it and the day flies past when I’m there. But when I get home, I realise what I’ve missed. Each day more precious than the last.

So today was not a great day. My nanny, who is mostly just fabulous, was going on about how the kids ate so well with her. Never any problems with her. And this came after a particularly trying weekend on the food front. I know I fret about it too much, and the kids are generally great eaters. But today. well today it just got to me.

The choices we make have consequences and one undeniable one for us, is that on weekends, our kids and ourselves need to get used to new rhythms, new rules and yes, new food.

So today was a hard one, but tomorrow will be easier.

Here we go!

Here we go!

So the 4th of July has come and gone for another year. I have mixed feelings about this one - on the one hand relief. 4th of July is such an intense holiday. Lots of outdoor activities - so exhausting, physically with the kids at this age. And yet I’m realizing next year will be very different. No more babies. No more naps. They will be little children next year - I will miss this age of baby yumminess enormously.

We were so lucky this week. Mom was out for a visit and she has so bonded with the kids, Oliver especially is missing her enormously now she’s gone. We’ve got into a rhythm on these trips and it is such a help having her around. And so much fun too!

So I look back on this 4th with both relief that it is over and a warm, rich nostalgia, for good times, precious times spent as a family.

I can never get over how with Lola at the first hint of music she starts bopping around. It’s as if she can’t help herself.

Granny has been staying with us this last week, such fun having her around - the kids just blossom.
