Kawang!

Oliver as usual, in his underwear, my kid’s preferred mode of attire. This was taken at a firends Christmas Even dinner - the Feast of the Seven Fishes that we were fortunate enough to attend this year. God was that grub good! Kids had fun too!

Christmas Party

A rare moment of filial compliance before heading off to a friend’s Christmas party. Hair-brushed and faces clean? Woot?! Oliver had decided on a different pair of specs that day. Go figure!

Off to see The Nutcracker

The holidays are all about traditions, at least for me anyway. One tradition we began this year was to see The Nutcracker ballet with the girls.

Believe it or not the choreography of their outfits was a total surprise. What can we say - these girls have taste!

A Great Christmas

I don’t know what it was about the holidays this year but there was something magical in the air. We had Meme and Loring with us on Christmas morning, the kids of course were beside themselves with excitement!

We went to Mass the night before which was great. I’m not a Catholic and not sure if I ever will be, but certainly lately I’ve been feeling the need for something a bit deeper and more meaningful in my life. I’m not sure of church will be it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a tradition I hope we will continue for many years ahead. The service was interesting, I felt welcomed, and it felt good to be part of a diverse community - mixing with people of all ages which is not something we often get to do. Oliver slept through the entire thing and Lola was captivated!

Christmas Day began with gifts and breakfast. This year I felt more organized than in past years and don’t feel we overdid it on the gifts. Lego is starting now to click with Oliver and it’s great to see him so absorbed. Lola got a wee kitchen (which Oliver loves too) and a toy piano so she can pound away when I’m practicing.

Cerentha, Brian and Morgan came for dinner, together with Cerentha’s and Brian’s kids Jack and Lu. Dinner - roast lamb went on for a good six hours - perfect. Good wine, great company. I think the fact that the kids are older just makes it all the more easier and more fun too, as you get to dive into the traditions of Christmas together.

Feeding Pelicans

I’m not going to speak too much to these, except to thank our lovely friends Chip and Rachel for including us. Chip and Rachel have a Christmas Eve tradition called the Feast of the Five Fishes, which is pretty much what it says. Anyway, suffice to say they ended up with an excess of anchovies that they had bought from the bait shop for this extravaganza. So we joined them, with Meme and Loring, to feed the remaining anchovies to the birds and pelicans.

I was a magical night, the light was perfect. It was a truly memorable way to enjoy the run up to the holidays! You can check out all the pictures from that day on Flickr.

Xmas 06

What a wonderful holiday it was. Claudette and Loring were over for the holidays and we had a fine old time together. The really great part was doing things with Michelle, Damon and the boys - be it the Aquarium, the pier to ride the carousel, or the Rose cafe. All exhausting but thoroughly enjoyable and a great opportunity for the boys to spend time together. I think Oliver still needs to spend more time with other kids, but that too will come. He is so quiet sometimes - seems like a different boy altogether.
Despite my excitement at the imminent avalanche of language, things have quietened down somewhat on that front - I think he can make himself understood quite well as it is, so there’s no real impetus right now to go the next level. Especially when he is so busy and on the go all the time.
Xmas day itself was very chilled. Oliver was overwhelmed by the gifts, but the nap happened on schedule and that was everyone’s saving grace :) Next year I think we need to limit the gifts though. It all got a bit insane. The weather was fabulous though and sipping mimosas on the Oliver’s new sand box, courtesey of Loring was a nice way to herald the holiday. I get so sentimental at this time of year - John Lennon’s Happy Xmas War Is Over gets to me every year. So much to both feel grateful for and still to hope for.

Papa!

Papa!Christmas was a happy time in the Kydd household. I of course, cooked way too much food - but we ate like kings! Home made mince pies, cookies and of course in the English tradition - the bird! Martha’s recipe served me a treat and 30 minute bastings produced a tender piece of meat - even tho I was exhausted by the time we got down to eating it!

Oliver is a bundle of energy - with no real place to direct it to. So he’s getting a bit frustrated - once he turns from his tummy on to his back, he has nowhere else to go. I know we should enjoy it - as soon as he learns how to crawl we’ll be in trouble.

New Year is approaching and with it what we want to aim for next year… A safe and healthy year is top of my list, taking time to enjoy what we have and make the most of the opportunities presented to us.

That’s about it for lists of stuff - let me know anymore out there…

Some fun stores I’ve found over the last few weeks.
- Egiggle gear, toys, clothes
- Pacifier clothes, furniture

- Baby Cz for clothes
- Modern Child furniture, books
- Dwell baby bedding
- Ipod baby shirts
- Babylegs legwarmers for babies - so cute

So that’s it - most is fairly pricey - but often great places to go for ideas - then check to see if they have the product’s on Amazon ;) Speaking of which, check out - Oliver’s Wishlist
