Lola’s Graduation

Even though Lola was leaving to go to another preschool and not officially graduating to kindergarten, the folks at Young Minds let her participate in the ceremony. What a day! She is sad to leave that wonderful school and will sorely miss the lovely teachers there. but rustic Canyon Nursery School beckons and a new chapter begins!

Lola and the Tooth Fairy

About a year ago Lola was using her teeth to open something, despite numerous parental calls of “Teeth are not a tool!” In frustration she pulled a bit too hard and tears and a little blood followed. She complained the tooth hurt so Steven took her into the dentist who said something may, or may not result, we would just have to wait and see.
Well one year later and 6 months of increasing wigglyness and the tooth has gone. Now I have two children with prematurely absent front teeth.
Of course we had just been watching that hilarious (thanks to the sublime Steve Merchant) movie The Tooth Fairy, so Lolie was fully prepped on what needed to happen when one loses ones tooth. The tooth itself was never found, but the tooth fairy was undeterred and Lola got her first dollar.

Happy Birthday Lola!

January is a busy month here, what with Steven and Lola’s birthdays coming at the same time. This year for Lola it’s all about painting, rainbows, wings, sparkles, rainbows, unicorns and princesses!

Happy birthday sweetheart - wishing you many more rainbow-colored adventures to come!

Rainmaker

There is something about the rain in Southern Claifornia, t’s always somewhat of a festive event, it happens so rarely. Of course we feel this for the first two days then the monotony sets in and we’re ready for the sun again.

This shot captures Lola in all her Loliness. Crazy pants on head fashion, face-painted to the max, ready to get jumping!

Thanksgiving Friends

Lola with her friend Marielle from the Red Robins class. One thing I will always remember from her first year at Young Minds is the face painting. Boy does my girl love to paint herself, you can’t do it for her. No no! Very specific ideas on technique this girl has. Gorgeous creature!

Dressing Up

Dear Lola, sure likes to dress up! This week I’m going to do a photo montage of all her recent outfits, because it really is quite impressive.

There was a time I thought I could influence what she wore, and every day would start with a battle - I was just so frustrated that there were so many clothes, not cheap clothes at that, that she just wouldn’t wear!

Now I’ve given up. Every day she gets to pick what she wears, my only input is if I think she’ll be too cold. Fair enough right? She’s in control and I have to say, she does a great job, putting together ensembles that in their rainbow craziness actually kind of work. Even the multiple changes of outfits per day I’ve learned to accept. Deep breath!

Lola after dance class

After an initial stalled attempt with ballet, this new class seems to be really resonating with Lola. I think it helps there is a girl from her preschool, Sofia who also goes. This one she actually looks forward to.

Kids Art

Sometimes the things you wonder about with your kids - what they are “getting” and “not getting” and at what age, is simply a matter of what they are developmentally ready for. I used to wonder when Oliver would “get” drawing - when he would move from just experimenting with colors to actually putting together an image with some intention around it. Suddenly, age 4 and a half we are here.
Here’s a selection of art projects from the Kydd house…

Oliver's Self-portrait

Lola's Sparkles

Oliver Self Portrait - with glasses

T for Turtle by Lola

Spontaneous gift for Mama by Oliver

Lola - Learning to write her name

Lola Turns 3 Years Old

I can’t believe our little girl has turned 3. Coming in at a healthy 32 pounds and 36.5 inches, she is growing every day and is crazy smart.

We celebrated her birthday with a fantastic party - you can see the photos here on Flickr. A lot of folks, a lot of kids, with our core group of friends who stayed on at the end whilst the kids settled down to a movie - perfect.

Here are some of Lolie’s gems:

besert - dessert
comfyball - comfortable
psghetti - spaghetti
scrambridge
antidotics

She is also writing L for Lola, O for Oliver and T for turtle.

The list goes on! I love you my girl. You really are a girl of passion, joy and wit.
The world will be your playground.
