Turning 40

Reflecting back on turning 40 I can’t say I experienced it as the turning point people often talk about. It really just passed like any other birthday. Some anxiety about the festivities, followed by much enjoyment of the festivities. Any middle-aged angst - what am I doing with my life type questions? Well, let’s just say not any more than usual.
There has been so much going on this year, to those that know us you know what I’m talking about, most of it good, amazingly good. I don’t feel I’ve had a moment to stop and think. The biggest decision was deciding to get an au pair. I’m hoping that out of that, I’ll have a bit more time to think about finding some kind of job, or maybe going back to college doing some postgraduate work. Maybe an MA. There I said it out loud. We’ll see. I need to figure out first what in. Photography seems the most likely. I did do a creative writing course, but didn’t really stick with it. That’s my main problem right now, sticking with things. I never used to be such a flake.
So maybe that’s it, the big lesson about turning 40s. Time to commit to something. Time to figure out, now the children are getting a bit older, what’s next…

Pooltime fun!

My birthday was a chance to get away this year. There was a big party that needed organizing too, but as the big day itself fell on President’s Day weekend, it offered a chance to get away. We stayed at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs - highly recommend it for anyone heading out that way. Especially if you are still single or not toting the little ones. Our kids loved it, but I think in retrospect somewhere a little less rockstar may be more up our alley.

Not getting any younger

But not looking too shabby either :) I’ve just started experimenting with a new Iphone app - pretty nifty pictures. I really like this one - although it took a few goes!

The Best Birthday Ever

I’m not going to spend too much time talking about my birthday this year, but suffice to say Steven took the book and threw it out of the window. I’ll just say 6 great friends, a limo, Puppetry of the Penis, and dinner at Bazaar. There I’ve said it. The rest I’ll leave up to your vivid and sordid imaginations!

La Magione

I rarely like photos of myself but am rather pleased with this one. Nice job hubby!

God it felt good to be back in Italy. My Italian came right back - much more so than my French which somehow never ceases to surprise me given how much longer I’ve studied French. Communque… it was great. I got to be the interpreter for the week and loved it!

I should say a couple of words about our villa - La Magione. I suppose most Italian villas are like this - ie wonderful with stunning views - but ours really served our situation well. Three sets of bedrooms linked together with ensuite bathrooms, was perfect for our three families. It also had a very cool modern take on Mediterranean decor and a pool with a children’s area. I would strongly recommend it.

Also the fact it was situated in handy reach of Siena and Florence right up against the Chianti wine region meant it was perfect for our short day trips.
